Reading Slump

Whether you’re a regular reader or an occasional one. I bet you’ve been there.

I used to think it was something that only happened to me probably due to lack of my ability to concentrate on one thing at a time & also my tendency to get bored of things quite easily. After starting my bookstagram account (instagram account dedicated to books) I noticed that I wasn’t the only one. People who read more than 45 books a year faced the same issue.

As per my experience, there could be several reasons to this complex problem. Now the question is, how do you get over it?

Let me try and share my take on it. If you have better solutions, please do share.

Sometimes, I am in the middle of a book that everyone’s been raving about but I don’t seem to understand why. I try my best to understand why everyone else loves it so much. In these  moments I really do start doubting myself. “Maybe, Im not smart enough to understand it” Or “Maybe I should just watch the movie”

In this particular situation, I just accept that its not my type of book and pick another one that I will definitely like while occasionally trying to finish the one that put me through horrible slump. Rarely, very RARELY I end up leaving it half way through. (I say rarely, because unfinished books really haunt me).

OR

When I have too many options.

At times, I have such a huge pile of TBR (To be read) that it takes me days to decide on which one I want to start first. In this case, I just pick up the one thats easy to read first. This way I can finish it off faster and get to my every so increasing pile of TBR.

In the end, we all know its not that simple to get out of this. Its sort of being trapped in a room with several doors, I can choose to open any one of them but I can’t decide which one to open first.

Wish there was a simple process but I guess nothing complex comes with an easy solution.
